Objects: Retrospective studies was carried out to evaluate and analysis the complication after hydrocelectomy of children
Methods: The 300 cases of hydrocele under 15 years old who underwent
hydrocelectomy between January, 1994 and December, 1998 was reviewed.
Results: A total of 29(9%) complications were encountered in 28 patients, including controlateral hydrocele(12), wound infection(8), recurred hydrocele(4), scrotal hematoma(3) and iatrogenic ectopic testis(2). The reoperations were performed in 16 cases including controlateral hydrocele(12) and recurred hydrocele(4).
Conclusion: Although the rate of complications were low, sometimes the complications result in reoperations of children. Therefore through history taking, physical examination and diagnostic studies should be performed to prevent controlateral hydrocele in postoperative period and meticulous operative techniques including routine testicular palpation for position at the completion of hydrocelectomy should be performed to prevent recurred hydrocele and iatrogenic ectopic testis.
